Savoy Cinema Employee to embark on cinema-to-cinema adventure for charity!
3000 Miles to Heamoor with Merryn Smith

Merlin Cinemas' employee, Merryn Smith, is about to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime-adventure following his life-long passions and is aiming to raise money for Cornwall Blood Bikes at the same time. |

In Merryn's own words:
"In 1992, I came from the Isles Of Scilly to Penzance for college. I developed a love of film and the cinema. My local was The Savoy, recently purchased and soon to be redeveloped into a three-screen theatre that’s always retained its independent character.
Twenty-five years later, at the end of 2017, again I moved from the islands, though this time, with a family and the Savoy was undergoing a huge refurbishment – something I’ve enjoyed more than one-hundred times since its completion. I explored the beautiful South West on a scooter and then moved on to a 500cc motorcycle. In October last year, I had an idea…
With Merlin Cinemas operating in Thurso, Scotland (just down the road from John O’Groats) I thought: why not drive from Land’s End to John O’Groats calling in at the Savoy and Thurso along the way? Better still, why not visit each of the sixteen Merlin Cinemas along the way?!
Within three months I’d actually got a dream, part-time job at the Savoy and plans began to take shape. Several people asked if I was doing it for charity and, as the adventure was taking place on two wheels and we often took deliveries for Cornwall Blood Bikes as part of my main job for the Isles Of Scilly Skybus at Land’s End Airport, I decided to raise for some money for them.
So, the countdown has well and truly begun. On June 22nd, between 12:30 and 13:00, I’m setting off on a three-thousand-mile trip, across thirteen of our fifteen National Parks, touching the four points of the compass on mainland Britain to visit all sixteen Merlin Cinemas.
From Land’s End, it’s “3000 Miles to Heamoor.” "
